Bobcats lose opener then bounce back to win
in extra innings at MCAC softball tourney

(PARKVILLE, MO) Bellevue University pitcher Jenny Miller tossed a five inning no-hitter leading the Bruins to a 10-0 win over the Bobcats in the opening round of the MCAC softball tournament Thursday. The 'Cats bounced back quickly, however, picking up a dramatic 4-2, 8-inning win over #1 seed Park University to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament that concludes Friday.

BU's Miller struck out eight of the sixteen Bobcat batters she faced in a dominant performance while her teammates backed her with a nine hit attack. Nicole Goodrich (Eagle) started in the circle for PSC and was tagged with the loss after working 2.1 innings. Lauren Fiori (Colorado Springs, CO) and Jocelyn Anson (Brunswick) pitched in relief. The victors used a five run second inning before they added four more runs in the third frame for an early 9-0 lead.

Laura Kjar (Wood River) went the distance against Park scattering seven hits directing the Bobcats to the win in consolation play. The 'Cats scored a run in the seventh inning to tie the game before adding a pair of runs in the first extra frame to end it. Jen Siedlik (Omaha) drove home both runs with a single while McKayla Clark (Ashland) led a nine-hit attack going 2-for-3 with a RBI. The loss eliminated Park, the regular season MCAC Champion, from the tournament. The Bobcats (25-21) play York College (11-24) at 10:00 a.m. with the winner advancing to play Bellevue at noon.
