NWOS Rangers top Bobcats
(ALVA, OK)
The Bobcats opened a 14-7 first period lead over the
Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers before the hosts
scored the final 52 points of the contest in topping
the 'Cats 59-14 last Saturday. The loss drops the
Bobcats to 4-4 for the season.
Short
touchdown runs by Lynn Meyer (Johnson) and Mike
Mertens (Hastings) gave the Bobcats their only lead
of the game at the 6:17 mark of the opening stanza
before the Rangers, and especially Thez Robinson,
blew open the game. The explosive Robinson rushed
for 247 yards and five touchdowns as NWOS rolled up
595 yards of offense for the day. The Bobcats rushed
for 194 and added 23 via the air for a 217 yard
total. Mertens led the Bobcats with 91 yards rushing
on 14 carries.
Dustin
Sealey (Hastings) had 10 tackles to lead the defense
with Derek Derr (Maitland, MO) and Jeremy Weidner
(Madison) adding nine and eight respectively.
The Bobcats
return to the road on Saturday when they travel to
Lawrence, KS and a game with Haskell University.
Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
"We just
need to regroup as we finish the season with three
teams that we can compete with," said Bobcats coach
Terry Clark.
