Bobcats Fall to Valley
City in Final Game
(FARGO, ND) Valley City State defeated the Bobcats
45-27 last Friday evening in the Fargo Dome in the
final game of the 2007 season. The Bobcats, playing
as an NAIA independent this year, end the season
with a 6-5 mark.
Valley City
threw for 260 yards and rushed for another 160 in
gaining the win. The Bobcats used the 168 yard-2 TD
performance of senior tailback Mike Mertens
(Hastings) to stay in the see-saw affair. Mertens'
effort gives him 1211 yards rushing for the season
placing him third on the all-time single season
rushing mark at Peru State. Senior QB Derek Falor
(Sioux Falls, SD) completed 8 of 19 throws for 68
yards with senior WR Jared Gerdes hauling in four
for 26 yards.
Sophomore
LB Derek Derr (Maitland, MO) led the Bobcats on
defense with 13 tackles including one interception.
Tyler DeBuhr (Auburn) and Dustin Sealey (Hastings)
added nine each.
"We did not
do the things we needed to do on both offense and
defense to win the game," said coach Terry Clark.
"Valley found our weaknesses on defense and
exploited them.
