Bobcats Roll Over Waldorf for Fourth Straight Win

(FOREST CITY, IA) The Bobcats opened up a close game with a 17 point third period in topping Waldorf College 24-6 in football action last Saturday. The win, the Bobcats fourth in a row, ups the season record to 4-2 heading into a 1:00 p.m. home match up with Benedictine College on Saturday in the Oak Bowl.

The 'Cats used the same recipe for success against WC that they had used in the previous three wins: a stout defensive effort combined with an opportunistic ball control offense. The Bobcats rushed for 186 yards and passed for another 141 while holding Waldorf to 155 total yards. Nate Jeter (Tarkio, MO) provided the games only first half points on a 5 yard run at 9:40 of the opening period. Jeter ran for 43 yards on the afternoon second only to Mike Mertens (Hastings) who had a game high 92 yards on 17 carries. A 17 yard Bryan Miller (Nebraska City) field goal midway through the third quarter upped the margin to 10-0 before the Bobcats defense added a score on a Jack Critchfield (Lincoln) 18 yard fumble return. Running back John Noojin (Deshler) added the final Bobcats touchdown on a 1 yard run at :36 of the third for a 24-0 lead. WC scored their only touchdown on a nine yard run with 5:32 remaining.

"We played a very solid game on both sides of the ball," said head coach Terry Clark. "We took advantage of Waldorf's mistakes that helped us put them away in the second half."

Quarterback Derek Falor (Sioux Falls, SD) was a 15 of 30 passer spreading his tosses to five different Bobcat receivers. Cody Wallinger (Odell) and Jared Gerdes (Auburn) had five catches each. Shane Ryan (Greeley) led the defense with 12 tackles including nine solos. Dustin Sealey (Hastings) added eight tackles.
