Bobcats Top Bacone for First CSFL Win

The Bobcats traveled to Muskogee, OK for a CSFL contest with Bacone College and came away with a 24-9 win, the ‘Cats first CSFL win of the season.  The Bobcats are now 6-4, 1-2 CSFL heading into the final game of the season on Saturday when Texas College visits the Oak Bowl.  Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.

The Bobcats scored first against Bacone after a 10 play- 63 yard drive at 5:56 of the second quarter.  Lynn Meyer hauled in a 15 yard pass from Derek Falor for the score and Bryon Miller added the PAT for a 7-0 lead that would carry into the half.  Miller added a 41 yard field goal for a 10-0 advantage late in the third quarter and then the fireworks began for both teams.  Mike Mertens scored from 21 yards out for the Bobcats stretching the lead to 17-0 after another Miller kick at 11:36.  Bacone quickly responded on a 29 yard TD pass cutting the deficit to 17-7.  The Bobcats responded again when Falor passed 32 yards to Wade Coulter at the 5:03 mark for a 24-7 lead.  The Bobcats took a safety with one second left to end the scoring and the game.

"It was our first CSFL win in three seasons and is a great tribute to our seniors for working hard and battling through a lot of adversity,” said Bobcats head coach Terry Clark.  “We now need to focus on our final game and get that 7th win.”

Meyer led the Bobcat ground game with 157 yards on 20 carries.  Mertens added 83 in 16 carries.  Falor completed 7 of 13 passes for two scores and 108 yards.

An active Bobcat defense had another excellent day allowing only 96 yards on the ground.  Bacone went to the airways 24 times for 227 yards but suffered a pair of interceptions by Bobcat defensive back Rusty Fuller.  Jeff McQuinn added 3 sacks to his season total as part of a 10 tackle afternoon.  Tyler DeBuhr led the defense with 12 tackles.
