Bobcats Top Bacone
for First CSFL Win
The Bobcats traveled to Muskogee, OK for a CSFL
contest with Bacone College and came away with a
24-9 win, the ‘Cats first CSFL win of the season.
The Bobcats are now 6-4, 1-2 CSFL heading into the
final game of the season on Saturday when Texas
College visits the Oak Bowl. Kick-off is set for
1:00 p.m.
The Bobcats scored first against Bacone after a 10
play- 63 yard drive at 5:56 of the second quarter.
Lynn Meyer hauled in a 15 yard pass from Derek Falor
for the score and Bryon Miller added the PAT for a
7-0 lead that would carry into the half. Miller
added a 41 yard field goal for a 10-0 advantage late
in the third quarter and then the fireworks began
for both teams. Mike Mertens scored from 21 yards
out for the Bobcats stretching the lead to 17-0
after another Miller kick at 11:36. Bacone quickly
responded on a 29 yard TD pass cutting the deficit
to 17-7. The Bobcats responded again when Falor
passed 32 yards to Wade Coulter at the 5:03 mark for
a 24-7 lead. The Bobcats took a safety with one
second left to end the scoring and the game.
"It was our first CSFL win in three seasons and is a
great tribute to our seniors for working hard and
battling through a lot of adversity,” said Bobcats
head coach Terry Clark. “We now need to focus on
our final game and get that 7th win.”
Meyer led the Bobcat ground game with 157 yards on
20 carries. Mertens added 83 in 16 carries. Falor
completed 7 of 13 passes for two scores and 108
yards.
An active Bobcat defense had another excellent day
allowing only 96 yards on the ground. Bacone went
to the airways 24 times for 227 yards but suffered a
pair of interceptions by Bobcat defensive back Rusty
Fuller. Jeff McQuinn added 3 sacks to his season
total as part of a 10 tackle afternoon. Tyler
DeBuhr led the defense with 12 tackles.
