Wesleyan Sweeps Bobcats
in Diamond Action
(PERU, NE)
Nebraska Wesleyan swept a doubleheader from Peru
State on Tuesday by scores of 6-5 and 12-1. The
losses drop the 'Cats to 13-15-1 (8-4 MCAC) heading
into a key four game league set at Bellevue Friday
and Saturday.
Wesleyan used a four run sixth inning rally in the
first game to erase a 3-2 deficit and escape with
the win. Matt Miller (Omaha) worked 5.1 innings for
the Bobcats and suffered the pitching loss. Miller
allowed seven hits and three earned runs while
striking out five during his stint. Matt Martin
(Omaha) and Will Hays (Tracy, CA) led the Bobcats
offense with two hits apiece. Both of Martin's hits
were doubles.
In the nightcap Wesleyan expanded a 2-1 lead by
plating five runs in the fifth inning and then
slammed the door on the 'Cats with a five run
seventh inning in cruising to the win. Bobcats coach
Jason Cronin used six different pitchers trying to
slow down the visitors who banged out a dozen hits.
Starter Jon Sanley (Rising City) took the loss after
working 1.2 innings. The Bobcats managed only three
hits during the contest and were guilty of three
errors in the field. "Defensively we didn't show up
to play today," said Cronin.
