“A Good Day for Baseball”
Last Friday, September
21st, 2007 the Peru State College
baseball team embarked on a trip to the
Kansas City, Missouri area. The purpose of
the trip was two-fold. First, to practice,
learn and enjoy the game at its highest
level. Second, to provide a relaxed
atmosphere that would hopefully allow these
student-athletes to remember that the game
of baseball is fun and that it is something
that should be enjoyed. Indeed, the trip
turned out to be one that many of the bobcat
players won’t soon forget. It was a truly
positive, productive and educational day for
all who attended.
Around 11:30 am the
‘Cats made their first stop at the
Mac-N-Seitz baseball academy. The academy
is owned by former major league ball players
Mike “Mac” Macfarlane and Kevin Seitzer (http://www.mac-n-seitz.com/).

The 2007-2008 edition
of the bobcats practiced in the spacious
indoor facility for roughly two hours.
During that time several bobcats received
personalized instruction from the long time
catcher for the Royals, Red Sox’s and A’s.

According to head coach
Jason Cronin, “we were very excited when the
opportunity arose for us to go down to the
academy and receive the highest quality
instruction for our catchers and hitters.
We are very grateful to Mr. Macfarlane who
took time out of his very busy schedule to
help our players grow. The knowledge and
experience received from a long time major
league ball player is invaluable.”
After the practice and
instruction session the bobcats then headed
off for a nice team meal. After everyone
ate nearly way too much, the “Cats” then
proceeded to take in a Kansas City Royals
game. On this night the Royals played host
to the Cleveland Indians. The team arrived
at Kauffman Stadium (more affectionately
known to Royal fans as the “K”) around 5:00
pm. The early arrival allowed everyone to
take in some pre-game batting practice.

As for the game itself,
the Indians were still in contention for the
best record in major league baseball. The
Indians did nothing to hinder those hopes by
sending their ace C.C. Sabathia to the hill.
This night would belong to the “Tribe” as
Sabathia kept his CY Young hopes alive with a
5-3 win over the Royals.
Coach Cronin would like
to thank first year assistant Coach Brad
Martin who helped make this trip possible.

highly respected Mac-N-Seitz
organization. |
