Bobcats Return to
Diamond Action, Gain Split with Concordia
(SEWARD,
NE) The Bobcats found dry field conditions in Seward
and managed to squeeze in a non-league doubleheader
with Concordia University Tuesday. CU won the opener
8-5 with the 'Cats taking the nightcap 10-5. The
Bobcats are now 4-7-1.
The 'Cats took an early 5-1 (second inning) lead
before the hosts battled back taking the lead for
good with a three-run fifth inning. The Bobcats bats
were quiet for the final five innings managing only
one hit during that stretch. Gary Hall (Golden, CO)
banged out a two-run double to lead the attack. Jon
Harder (Manteca, CA) was 1-3 scoring a run and
adding a RBI. Jon Sanley (Rising City) started on
the mound for PSC tossing three innings allowing
five earned runs on seven hits. Trevor Varley
(Central City) suffered the loss in relief allowing
three runs and a pair of hits in two innings.
The Bobcats fell behind 4-0 in the second game
before denting the plate with a five run fourth
inning to gain the lead. The 'Cats added a pair of
runs in the fifth frame and ended the game with a
three-run seventh. "Our bats came alive and we had a
very balanced attack," said Bobcats coach Jason
Cronin. "In addition, Justin Bruns (Plattsmouth)
came out of the bullpen and threw extremely well to
keep us in the game. We bounced back well from the
first game loss."
Bruns entered the game in the third inning relieving
starter Ben Bloom (Vancouver, WA) and tossed four
innings of one hit relief. He overpowered CU and
picked up six strikeouts in the process to gain the
win. Matt Martin (Omaha) blasted a two-run home run
in the fifth inning to spearhead the offense. Austin
Reisig (Wichita, KS) and James Welty (Elkhorn) each
added two RBI.
The Bobcats open MCAC play Friday and Saturday at
Central Christian College in McPherson, KS. The
teams will play a doubleheader each day starting at
1:00 p.m.
