MCAC Leader Park Takes
Three of Four from Bobcats
(Peru, NE)
The top team in early MCAC action, Park University,
took three of four games from the second place
Bobcats in weekend baseball action March 28-29 in
Peru. PSC now stands 13-13-1, 8-4 MCAC for the
season.
The Bobcats ace, Trevor Varley (Central City),
tossed seven solid innings in the series opener but
suffered the tough luck loss as Park rallied for a
7-1 eight inning win. The Bobcats had an opportunity
in the sixth inning to break the tie but were unable
to produce the game winning hit. Park pitching
allowed the Bobcats only a pair of singles by Austin
Reisig (Wichita, KS) and Gary Hall (Golden, CO). "It
was a tough loss for us," said coach Jason Cronin.
"We had our shot in the sixth inning but couldn't
get a run across."
Park continued its hot hitting in game two and
rolled to a 14-1 win. The Bobcats got behind early
and were once again stymied by Park pitching. Gary
Hall was a bright spot and continued his hot hitting
by lining a pair of hits including a double.
Freshman Jon Sanley (Rising City) suffered the
pitching loss working four innings and allowing four
earned runs and four hits.
Saturday action began with a 10-4 Park victory.
Senior LHP Ben Bloom (Vancouver, WA) was tagged with
the loss giving up nine earned runs and thirteen
hits in 4.1 innings of work. Jon Harder (Manteca,
CA) and Gary Hall had two hits each for the 'Cats.
Hall knocked in a pair of runs for PSC.
The Bobcats were finally able to put it all together
in the final game of the series and notched an 8-5
win over the Pirates. Justin Bruns (Plattsmouth)
earned his second straight pitching win going 5.2
innings scattering six hits and three earned runs.
Gary Hall led the Bobcats by going 3 for 4 with a
RBI. "We battled hard and finally got some big
hits," said Cronin. "This is a very big win for us."
The Bobcats will host Nebraska Wesleyan in a Tuesday
doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. The two teams
split a twin dip last week in Lincoln.
