Joakim Claesson named
Peru State's MCAC male scholar-athlete of the year
(POINT LOOKOUT, MO) The
Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference has released
the 2007-08 Scholar-Athlete list. To earn MCAC
Scholar-Athlete honors, the student-athlete must be
at least a sophomore, own a 3.25 cumulative grade
point average or higher, and have completed at least
twosemesters at their present institution.
Twenty-seven Bobcats have been named recipients of
the award.
In addition, each MCAC member school nominates
athletes for "Scholar-Athlete of the Year". Peru
State's male recipient for the 2007-08 academic year
is Joakim Claesson (SR, Stockholm, Sweden). Claesson
is a two-year member of the Bobcats baseball team
and this past season pitched 19.1 innings in seven
appearances with a 3.98 ERA, second best on the team
for the 'Cats. Claesson is majoring in Mathematics
at Peru State and carries a perfect 4.0 GPA.
"Joakim is one of the brightest human beings I have
ever encountered both on and off the field," said
Bobcats baseball coach Jason Cronin. "Not only is he
an excellent student, but he is also a very solid
athlete. I am glad to see that he has earned this
award. He is very deserving."
